Roll-on, roll-off lorry
This type of vehicle is highly suitable for transporting either coarse or fine bulk materials.
A major benefit is the ability to carry out loading on sites without any bulk-handling crane or shovel with a high tip bucket available, or where there isn’t enough room for a tractor/trailer combination.
How does it work?
This combination is based on the use of roll-off, roll-on containers; not to be confused with shipping containers! The lorry is equipped with a hook loader trailer. This makes it possible to deposit containers on site.
It’s particularly handy on locations where there isn’t a bulk-handling crane or shovel with high tip bucket available, or sufficient room for a tractor/trailer combination.
Furthermore, the use of multiple containers makes it possible to swap out containers. That way loading can continue for longer periods (under a conveyor, for instance) or at a time of your choosing.
The skips are also suited for coarser loads than a walking floor.
Thanks to its long chassis, our roll-on, roll-off lorry can handle skips up to 47.5 m3 in capacity. The disadvantage is that even when empty, this vehicle is already 7 or 8 tonnes heavier than a walking floor. Especially on German routes, where the permissible gross vehicle weight for road freight transport is 40 tonnes, this can drive up transport costs significantly compared to a walking floor. Combined with the higher starting price, that means the decision to opt for a roll-on, roll-off lorry requires careful thought.
